Our Techniques and Services

Different Pressure for Different People

Dr. Rick is experienced with patients as young as three days old, and with patients as old as 102 years of age. Each patient, based on age, health, preferences and experience can benefit from the use of different chiropractic techniques and therapies. This page details the methods our practitioners are skilled in.

Chiropractic Spinal Adjustments

Adjustments, or spinal manipulation as they’re sometimes referred to, include the gentle and specific movement of vertebrae in the spine. The objective of this movement is to realign a vertebra which has moved from its proper place for any reason. Common means of vertebral misalignment include:

  • Car accidents
  • Chemical exposure
  • Illness
  • Malnutrition
  • Normal daily activities
  • Slips and falls
  • Stressful childbirth
  • Traumatic injuries

When a vertebra is out of place, it has an overall systemic effect on the body, influencing everything from muscles to the central nervous system. Without proper alignment and flow within the nervous systems and other systems within the body, humans can’t function at their peak.

During an adjustment, the chiropractor utilizes his hands or an instrument to move a vertebra back into place by exerting a slight pressure. This happens with a quick movement and most often there is no discomfort. You may hear a noise that sounds like cracking of knuckles. This is joint cavitation, which simply means that oxygen and nitrogen are released from the joint as it moves, and it’s not harmful.

Gentle Chiropractic Techniques

Adjustments are an excellent way to keep the body functioning at its highest level. When the body is in alignment, it is able to respond and perform as it was designed to. Our chiropractors use the following gentle and effective techniques to adjust the neck and spine:

The primary adjusting techniques we use include:

Activator Methods®

This is a system of spinal evaluation combined with a handheld adjusting instrument that delivers a consistent, low-force thrust. read more»

After identifying which vertebrae have lost their normal motion or position, a specific manual thrust is applied to free up “stuck” spinal joints. read more»

Palmer Upper Cervical – NUCCA

Relying on precise mathematical calculations, we deliver a specific and highly-controlled contact to the upper bone of your spine. read more»

Sacro Occipital Technique helps normalize the relationship between the pelvis and the head, using gravity to make the necessary correction. read more»

Thompson Terminal Point technique is a system of analysis and a special table that reduces the amount of energy needed to adjust your spine. read more»

Other Techniques

In addition to spinal manipulation, our chiropractors use the following therapeutic techniques to assist in bringing your spine and body back to peak performance.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electrical Muscle Stimulation helps the body in its healing process by sending a very small electrical current into the affected soft tissue injury or muscle spasm. The therapy utilizes this current to reduce swelling and release trigger points that may keep the muscle “locked up.” During this therapy, the body releases natural pain relievers called endorphins.

This therapy is especially effective for back and neck muscle spasms. It relaxes the muscle and allows it to return to its normal state rather quickly. Short therapy sessions are excellent in facilitating healing from acute and chronic pain. read more»

Therapeutic Exercise

Exercises you can do at home (or anywhere!) are a great way to engage in your healing process, speed your recovery and take charge of your health. We may recommend one or more of the following at-home exercises for you, and we’ll teach you how to do them in the office. Because it’s important that exercises are done in proper form, you can also find descriptions here. Read more>>

Custom Foot Orthotics

Orthotics are a great way to help with issues related to walking and alignment. Some of the issues orthotics help include:

  • Foot pain
  • Knee pain
  • Lower back pain

The need for orthotics is often related to an issue with the natural functioning of the foot. Custom orthotics can help realign the bones within the foot and ankle, taking pressure off of the back, neck, shoulders and hips. In addition, they help to distribute weight properly and take pressure off of toes, bunions and other parts of the foot.

Orthotics are ideal for anyone with discomfort from walking or imbalances in the body which are causing pain. These beneficial and simple devices can be worn on a daily basis and be utilized during most activities to take stress off of the body.

We can prescribe custom orthotics which will last well over a year in most cases. This can be a great investment in your overall health and well-being, from a biomechanical standpoint.

On-site X-rays

X-rays are taken on most patients to give the doctor an inside look at what’s going on with bone structure throughout the spine and surrounding skeletal structure. From these images, the chiropractor can see if your spinal vertebrae are sitting at abnormal angles and assess other issues including the need for additional diagnostic testing such as an MRI.

Interferential Electro-Therapy

Inferential electro-therapy is an excellent method of helping the body deal with spasms, sprains and issues related to soft tissues. This therapy works with a very low simulated frequency wave, applied to the soft tissue. Most patients are very comfortable during this treatment and say the sensation is barely noticeable.

In addition to stimulating the body’s natural healing, this therapy helps the body to produce natural pain- killing endorphins and helps with the release of soft-tissue stress such as strains and spasms.
